The Vancouver Surge, fresh off reaching the final of the Call of Duty League’s Stage 3 Major, lost their opening match in Stage 4 Major qualifying on Friday.
The Atlanta FaZe pulled out a 3-2 win over Vancouver. In other opening-day action, the Toronto Ultra topped the Carolina Royal Ravens 3-1, and Cloud9 New York swept the Vegas Falcons 3-0.
The Stage 4 Major qualifying round has the league’s 12 teams playing five qualifying matches apiece through May 18 to determine seeding for the Stage 4 Major playoffs, slated for May 23-25 in Dallas.
On Friday, Vancouver opened with a 250-190 win on Vault Hardpoint before Atlanta claimed Rewind Search and Destroy 6-3 and Hacienda Control 3-0. The Surge rebounded to capture Rewind Hardpoint 250-176, but the FaZe sealed the series with a 6-1 decision on Protocol Search and Destroy.
Toronto posted a 250-184 victory on Skyline Hardpoint ahead of Carolina’s 6-5 triumph on Dealership Search and Destroy. The Ultra closed it out with a 3-2 win on Protocol Control and a 250-177 victory on Hacienda Hardpoint.
New York downed Vegas 250-213 on Vault Hardpoint, 6-1 on Dealership Search and Destroy and 3-2 on Hacienda Control.
