Jacob Wilson delivered an RBI single to center with the bases loaded and none out in the 11th inning to give the Athletics a 7-6 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Monday night at West Sacramento, Calif.
Wilson also had a tying run-scoring single in the 10th inning for the Athletics, who won for the 10th time in their past 13 games. Wilson had three hits and three RBIs, Luis Urias also had three hits and Shea Langeliers homered and had two RBIs for the Athletics.
Seattle’s strategy played right into the hands of the Athletics in the bottom of 11th as Gio Urshela bunted automatic runner Tyler Soderstrom to third and then the Mariners intentionally walked Langeliers and JJ Bleday. Wilson, a stellar contact hitter, then won it by stroking a 0-2 pitch from Casey Legumina (2-1) up the middle.
Ben Williamson had two hits and two RBIs for Seattle, which lost its second straight contest following a six-game winning streak. Miles Mastrobuoni also drove in two runs while J.P. Crawford and Rowdy Tellez each had two hits for the Mariners.
Hogan Harris (1-0) pitched a hitless top of the 11th for the Athletics.
Seattle took a 6-5 lead in the top of the 10th. Mastrobuoni hit a shallow fly to left field but Cal Raleigh scored easily when Tyler Soderstorm’s throw was off the mark.
In the bottom of the frame, Wilson stroked a single to right on the first pitch from Andres Munoz to knock in runner Bleday from second. Nick Kurtz walked and Urias appeared to bounce out, but catcher’s interference was called to load the bases with none out.
Munoz then got out of the jam by striking out Lawrence Butler, Brent Rooker and Soderstrom in succession.
Langeliers’ sacrifice fly to right in the seventh gave the Athletics a 5-4 lead.
Williamson hit a bloop single into shallow right field in the top of the eight to score Raleigh with the tying run.
Luis Severino of the Athletics gave up four runs and five hits over six innings. He struck out five and walked four.
Seattle’s Bryce Miller allowed four runs and seven hits over four innings. He struck out one and walked none.
The Athletics struck in the first when Andujar’s sacrifice fly scored Rooker. They added a second run in the second when Bleday led off with a double and scored on Wilson’s single.
Seattle scored four runs in the third — the first scoring on an RBI single by Polanco. Two outs later, Tellez’s bouncer took a big hop over first baseman Kurtz for a run-scoring double and Mastrobuoni and Williamson followed with RBI singles to make it 4-2.
