Florida QB Franks (ankle) likely out for season

Florida redshirt junior quarterback Feleipe Franks is expected to miss the rest of the season after dislocating his right ankle late in the third quarter of Saturday’s win at Kentucky.

“They feel pretty certain that there was a break with the dislocation and he’ll be done for the season,” head coach Dan Mullen said afterward on the ESPN broadcast.

Franks was trying to scramble for a first down on fourth-and-1, but his leg was caught from behind while being met by a pair of Kentucky tacklers in front of him. His foot was pinned as he was tackled backward, and he was immediately in apparent pain. Franks was down for several minutes and put into an aircast, with Gators teammates crowding around him before he was carted off the field.

Florida, ranked ninth in the country, was trailing 21-10 at the time but scored 19 unanswered points in a 29-21 victory. Redshirt junior Kyle Trask relieved Franks and went 9 of 13 for 126 yards, scoring the go-ahead touchdown on a 4-yard run with 4:11 remaining.

The Gators scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns, with Josh Hammond capping it on a 76-yard run in the final minute.

Franks was 12 of 17 for 174 yards with a touchdown and an interception, along with eight carries for 23 yards, before his injury.

The third-year starter threw for 2,457 yards, 24 touchdowns and six interceptions in 2018.
