Hurricanes sign G Frederik Andersen to 1-year, $2.75M contract for 2025-26

Frederik Andersen

The Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday signed goaltender Frederik Andersen to a one-year, $2.75 million contract for next season.

Andersen, 35, is in the final season of a two-year, $6.8 million deal and could have become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

He was 13-8-1 with a 2.50 goals-against average, a .899 save percentage and one shutout in 22 regular-season games. Andersen was out 39 games because of a knee injury suffered in October and had surgery Nov. 22.

Andersen is 3-1 with a 1.59 GAA and .936 save percentage in the Stanley Cup playoffs for the Hurricanes, who knocked out the New Jersey Devils. He missed the series-clinching Game 5 on Tuesday with an undisclosed injury.

The Hurricanes face the Washington Capitals in the second round starting Tuesday. Andersen practiced Friday and is expected to start Game 1.

“Frederik has played extremely well for us and ranks in the top-10 all-time for winning percentage by an NHL goalie (.596, eighth),” Hurricanes general manager Eric Tulsky said. “We’re excited that he will be staying with the team for next season.”

The new contract includes performance bonuses of up to $75,000 for playing at least 35 games ($250,000), at least 40 games ($250,000) and if Carolina advances to the Eastern Conference finals and Andersen plays in at least half of the playoff games ($250,000).

The Anaheim Ducks selected Andersen, a native of Denmark, in the third round of the 2012 NHL Draft. He is 308-135-53 with a 2.56 GAA, .915 save percentage and 28 shutouts in 517 regular-season games for the Ducks (2013-16), Toronto Maple Leafs (2016-21) and Hurricanes (2021-present). He also is 41-31 with a 2.42 GAA, .915 save percentage and three shutouts in 76 postseason games.
