The Los Angeles Dodgers called up prized catching prospect Dalton Rushing on Wednesday.
Two-time World Series winner Austin Barnes was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
Rushing, 24, is batting .308 with a .938 OPS, five homers and 17 RBIs in 31 games this season at Triple-A Oklahoma City. He has started 16 games behind the plate, eight at first base and one in left field.
Rushing homered and drove in three runs in the Comets’ 8-5 win at Round Rock on Tuesday.
Ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the Dodgers’ system and No. 15 overall by MLB Pipeline, Rushing was a second-round draft pick in 2022 out of the University of Louisville.
Through four seasons in the minors, Rushing has batted .277 with 54 homers and 185 RBIs in 265 games.
Barnes, 35, is batting .214 with two RBIs in 13 games in his 11th major league season, all with the Dodgers. He is a career .223 hitter with 35 home runs and 162 RBIs in 612 games.
