Rhyne Howard sank two foul shots with 9.7 seconds remaining, lifting the Atlanta Dream to a 91-90 win over the Indiana Fever on Tuesday in Indianapolis.

The Fever scored the game’s first basket, then never led again until Aliyah Boston made one of two free throws with 21.7 seconds left for a 90-89 advantage. The Dream were up by 11 entering the fourth quarter.

After Boston’s foul shots, Rhyne Howard drove into the lane and was fouled by Kelsey Mitchell. Following Rhyne Howard’s two successful free throws, Indiana’s Natasha Howard had a shot blocked by Nia Coffey. Natasha Howard got once more chance but missed a 12-foot attempt.

The Dream topped 30 points in the first and third quarters while beating the Fever for the first time in the past six meetings.

Atlanta (1-1) appeared to take control in the third period after Indiana (1-1) cut a 10-point second-period deficit to 44-42 entering halftime.

Rhyne Howard opened the third with a trio of 3-point buckets, stretching the edge to 53-42 within the first minute and a half.

Rhyne Howard finished with 20 points, sinking all six free throws to offset a 5-for-17 shooting night. Brittney Griner was the top scorer for the Dream, tallying 21 points and eight rebounds before fouling out in the final minute.

Atlanta’s Brionna Jones added 19 points and 13 rebounds. Allisha Gray scored 16 points and dished out six assists.

Indiana was paced by Caitlin Clark, who scored 27 points, hitting 5 of 11 from 3-point range, and handed out 11 assists. Boston added 24 points and 10 rebounds for Indiana, with Mitchell tallying 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting.

The Fever shot 48.5 percent overall (33 of 68) and made 8 of 17 3-point tries but committed 14 turnovers and shot just 16 of 26 (61.5 percent) from the foul line.

Atlanta hit 42.6 percent from the floor (29 of 68) and 8 of 30 from 3-point range (26.7 percent) while giving the ball away 11 times.

The Fever and Dream will face off again on Thursday, this time in Atlanta.
