Kyle Manzardo and Angel Martinez each hit RBI doubles in the top of the 10th inning to lift the Cleveland Guardians to a 7-5 win over the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park on Saturday.
Cleveland has won the first three of the four-game series.
Bo Naylor had a sacrifice fly and pinch-hitter Nolan Jones added an RBI single in the four-run 10th for Cleveland.
Detroit responded in its half of the 10th, cutting the Cleveland lead to 7-5 on a 2-run double to left-center field by Gleyber Torres off Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase.
But Clase stifled the Detroit rally by inducing a foulout from Colt Keith and a groundout by Riley Greene to end the game.
After falling behind 3-0 in the first, Cleveland didn’t allow a run until the 10th inning, and the Guardians bullpen didn’t allow a hit in more than four innings of work until Torres’ double in the 10th.
Detroit took a 3-0 lead in the first on an RBI double by Keith and a 2-run single by Matt Vierling.
Cleveland cut its deficit to 3-2 in the third on a solo home run by Naylor and an RBI single by Jose Ramirez.
The score remained that way until the eighth, when Ramirez and Kyle Manzardo opened the inning with back-to-back singles off Detroit reliever Tommy Kahnle.
Following a popup, Kahnle induced a ground ball to first from Martinez, but Ramirez slid in to home plate safely ahead of a throw from Detroit first basemen Spencer Torkelson to tie the game at 3-3.
Ramirez and Manzardo each had two hits for the Guardians, and starter Luis Ortiz allowed three earned runs on four hits and five walks in his five innings of work.
In his first start following a stint on the disabled list, Casey Mize allowed one run on four hits and a walk, striking out six, in his five innings of work.
