Bryan Reynolds capped a four-hit game with a go-ahead homer in Pittsburgh’s seven-run eighth inning as the Pirates overcame a six-run deficit for a 9-6 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix on Tuesday.
Reynolds hit a three-run homer with one out in the eighth off Jalen Beeks to break a tie at 6-6 after the Pirates got five runs off Kevin Ginkel (0-3), who retired one of the six he faced in relief of Corbin Burnes.
Henry Davis had a two-run homer and a double and Tommy Pham and Alexander Canario had two hits apiece for the Pirates, who have won five of eight.
Corbin Carroll hit his 16th homer, and Burnes made his fifth straight quality start before leaving after seven innings with a 6-2 lead — the only damage being Davis’ two-run homer in the sixth.
Davis doubled to open the Pirates’ eighth and took third on Canario’s single. Pham beat out a single in the hole at shortstop with one out to drive in Davis.
Ke’Bryan Hayes walked on a 3-2 pitch before Isiah Kiner-Falefa doubled into the left field corner to drive in three and tie the game. Shortstop Geraldo Perdomo committed a throwing error on Neil Cruz’s grounder to put runners on the corners and bring up Reynolds.
Reynolds also had two singles, a double and a walk and scored twice.
Joey Wentz (2-1) gave up one run in 3 1/3 innings in relief of starter Mike Burrows. Dennis Santana and David Bednar pitched 1-2-3 innings to close it out. Bednar was credited with his sixth save.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Josh Naylor had two hits and an RBI for the D-backs, who have lost six of seven.
Burnes gave up six hits, struck out six and walked two. He has given up runs in only two of his last 30 innings. Teoscar Hernandez hit a three-run homer in the Dodgers’ 3-1 win Wednesday to halt Burnes’ 21-inning scoreless streak.
Burrows gave up five runs (four earned) and five hits in 3 1/3 innings of his second career start. He had two strikeouts and two walks.
Carroll hit the third pitch of the first inning for his fourth leadoff homer, and the D-backs made it 6-0 in the fourth. Alek Thomas singled in Gabriel Moreno, who had tripled to open the inning. After a walk and Burrows’ fielding error loaded the bases, Perdomo had a two-run single and Gurriel and Naylor had RBI singles.
