BetBoom Team defeated Talon Esports in a tiebreaker to determine second place and Aurora Gaming took down Gaimin Gladiators in another tiebreaker for the fourth and final playoff berth at DreamLeague Season 26 on Friday.
BetBoom’s 2-1 win earned it a ticket directly into the upper-bracket final of the double-elimination playoff stage, and they will face PARIVISION, who went 7-0 in Group Stage 2. Talon will settle for the lower-bracket semifinal against Aurora, who also prevailed 2-1 to end Gaimin Gladiators’ tournament.
The $1 million Dota 2 tournament began with 16 teams divided into two groups of eight in Group Stage 1. The top four teams from each group advanced out of the opening phase.
Group Stage 2 consisted of a single round robin of best-of-three matches. Now the top four teams will compete in a double-elimination playoff bracket, featuring best-of-three matches until the best-of-five grand final on Sunday.
The first-place team will pocket $250,000 plus a $40,000 club reward. There also will be 29,200 ESL Pro Tour points distributed among the teams participating.
On Friday, BetBoom Team opened with a quick 22-minute victory on green, but Talon Esports got even with a 27-minute victory on red. BetBoom won the make-or-break third map in 46 minutes on green to advance. Russia’s Danil “gpk” Skutin posted an average kills-deaths-assists ratio of 9.0/4.3/7.7 to carry BetBoom.
Aurora pulled out victories over GG of 55 minutes and 56 minutes on red, sandwiched around a 36-minute setback playing on green. Egor “Nightfall” Grigorenko of Russia guided the winning side with an average K-D-A of 12.3/2.3/11.0.
