Cameron Harper connected on a goal then assisted on Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s 10th goal of the season, helping the New York Red Bulls post a 2-0 victory over Atlanta United in Harrison, N.J., on Saturday night.
New York (8-6-3, 27 points) extended its season-long winning streak to three while recording its second shutout in three games. The Red Bulls’ goalkeeper Carlos Coronel tallied three saves in the victory in posting his second shutout against Atlanta this season following a 0-0 draw on March 8.
Atlanta (4-8-5, 17 points) saw its two-game winning streak come to an end following wins over FC Cincinnati and Orlando City SC. United outshot New York 10-8, but fell to 0-5-2 away from home in 2025.
New York struck first just three minutes in, as Harper scored his third goal of the season after Miguel Almiron sent an easily stolen ball deep in Atlanta territory.
After Almiron had a pair of attempts come up short, New York doubled its lead as Harper found Choupo-Moting in the 29th minute for the Red Bulls’ second goal past a diving Brad Guzan. New York outshot Atlanta 5-3 in the first half while possessing the ball for 62.6 percent of the first 45 minutes.
Atlanta had a flurry of late chances, as Jamal Thiare’s left-footed attempt in the 87th minute was saved by New York goalkeeper Carlos Coronel. Brooks Lennon then sent in a corner, which Emmanuel Latte Lath received with a header but missed the attempt.
Atlanta produced one more chance before extra time as Mateusz Klich’s left-footed shot from outside the box was blocked by Alexander Hack.
