Pinch-hitter Jake Bauers laced a go-ahead double in the seventh inning to propel the visiting Milwaukee Brewers to a 5-2 victory and a series sweep over the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.
Jackson Chourio and Brice Turang each tallied a pair of hits and an RBI, while Milwaukee starter Jose Quintana threw five innings of four-hit, two-run ball, while walking four and striking out three.
Four Brewers relievers combined to throw four scoreless innings, including Trevor Megill, who earned his 11th save with a scoreless ninth. Milwaukee won its seventh straight game — its longest winning streak since a nine-game stretch in August 2023.
Kyle Schwarber and J.T. Realmuto each drove in a run for the Phillies, who lost their fourth straight game. Ranger Suarez allowed just two runs (one earned) on seven hits in his six-inning stint, striking out two and walking none.
After Trea Turner worked a leadoff walk and stole second and third in the first, Realmuto’s two-out single gave the Phillies a 1-0 lead. Philadelphia doubled its lead in the second, as Quintana walked Bryson Stott and Johan Rojas with one out before Schwarber’s infield single scored Stott with two outs.
Joey Ortiz doubled and Turang singled with one out in the fifth before Chourio’s RBI groundout cut the Brewers’ deficit in half. William Contreras singled to extend the inning, but Suarez retired Eric Haase to escape further trouble.
Nick Mears (1-0) replaced Quintana in the sixth, throwing a perfect frame.
After Caleb Durbin began the top of the seventh with a double, Suarez was relieved by Orion Kerkering (4-2). Ortiz then flew out and Turang walked, before Chourio grounded into a force out. The Brewers then pulled even on Trea Turner’s fielding error, allowing Durbin to score the game-tying run.
Bauers then batted for Haase, connecting on a two-run double to give the Brewers a 4-2 advantage.
Milwaukee tacked on in the ninth off Jordan Romero, as Ortiz walked and stole second before scoring on Turang’s single to right.
