Former NFL cornerback Kelvin Joseph is facing charges related to the death of a 27-year-old motorcyclist.
Police in Richardson, Texas, arrested Joseph early Saturday and charged him with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and felony collision involving personal injury or death after the woman riding the motorcycle, Cody Morris, was killed on U.S. Highway 75 northbound.
He was booked into Richardson City jail, and bond was set at $1,000 for the misdemeanor, $25,000 for the felony charge.
Police in Richardson responded to the crash just before 5 a.m. on Saturday. Local news station WFAA reported that within an hour, Joseph called police in nearby Plano, Texas, to report he was involved in the crash.
Richardson police took him into custody after meeting with him and saw signs that he was intoxicated.
This is not the first run-in with trouble for the 25-year-old Joseph, who was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
The following spring, he was questioned for potential involvement in a murder that occurred outside a Dallas bar, but was cleared.
The Cowboys cut ties with Joseph after 26 games and two seasons, and he went on to appear in seven more games with the Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks and Indianapolis Colts.
He played in nine of 10 regular-season games with the D.C. Defenders of the UFL in 2025.
The Defenders will meet the St. Louis Battlehawks in a conference championship game on Sunday.
“We are aware of the incident and are gathering information,” the Defenders said in a statement to WFAA. “We have no further comment at this time.”
