New York Liberty All-Star center Jonquel Jones will be sidelined four to six weeks because of a sprained right ankle, the team announced on Saturday night.
Jones, 31, injured the ankle in the second quarter of an 89-81 loss Thursday night to the Phoenix Mercury. She sprained the same ankle on June 5 in an 86-78 victory over the Washington Mystics.
“After further imaging and evaluation, Jonquel avoided long-term injury, and she is projected to return to game action in approximately 4-to-6 weeks,” the Liberty said on social media.
Jones is averaging 12.1 points, 9.6 rebounds (third in the league), 2.3 assists, 1.1 blocks and 22.9 minutes in nine games (all starts) this season.
For her career, Jones averages 13.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.3 blocks and 25.4 minutes in 284 regular-season games (237 starts).
The five-time All-Star was the league Most Valuable Player for the 2021 season as well as the 2024 Finals MVP as New York captured the WNBA title.
The Liberty (10-2) visit the Seattle Storm on Sunday.
