Ryan McMahon sparked a four-run second inning off Zack Wheeler by hitting a two-run double and the New York Yankees ended a four-game home losing streak with a 4-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.

Acquired from the Colorado Rockies Friday in an attempt to improve New York’s anemic offense at third base, McMahon batted with the bases loaded after Wheeler (9-4) hit Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the foot and rookie Jasson Dominguez on the belt.

With the Yankees trailing, McMahon sliced a 2-1 curveball down the right field line to forge a 2-2 tie.

McMahon finished with two hits, reached base three times and made two nice plays at third base, including a sliding stop on Trea Turner’s ground ball for the second out of the fifth.

Austin Wells hit a tiebreaking sacrifice fly and McMahon scored the fourth run on a single to right field by Trent Grisham.

McMahon’s clutch hit helped the Yankees win for the fourth time in their past 11 games after being outscored 21-9 in the first two games against Philadelphia.

New York’s Carlos Rodon (11-7) survived allowing three homers for the second time this season and held the Phillies to four hits in 5 1/3 innings. The left-hander walked one and notched two of his eight strikeouts on Kyle Schwarber.

Four relievers followed Rodon with 3 2/3 scoreless innings. After Jonathan Loaisiga got the final two outs of the sixth, Luke Weaver pitched a 1-2-3 seventh and Tim Hill retired Bryce Harper to end a perfect eighth.

Devin Williams struck out two in the ninth for his 16th save.

Nick Castellanos led off the second with a homer off Rodon and Otto Kemp had his first career multi-homer game. Kemp connected two batters after Castellanos to give the Phillies a 2-0 lead and went deep again to open the fifth.

After Kemp’s second homer, Rodon allowed an infield single to Edmundo Sosa and walked Weston Wilson. With two outs, Schwarber hit a fly ball to deep right-center and Cody Bellinger completed the catch at the warning track in front of the auxiliary scoreboard.

Turner, Schwarber and Harper, Philadelphia’s first three batters, went a combined 0-for-12.

Wheeler allowed four runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings. The right-hander struck out eight, walked two and tied a career high by hitting three batters for the second time.

The Phillies were unable to sweep a three-game series from the Yankees for the second time in team history. Philadelphia’s first sweep occurred Sept. 1-3, 1997 at Veterans Stadium.
