Corbin Carroll and Blaze Alexander homered, Zac Gallen pitched six strong innings, and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Colorado Rockies 6-1 in the first game of a three-game series in Phoenix on Friday.

Carroll’s two-run homer, measured at 424 feet, capped the scoring in the fifth inning after Alexander drove in Arizona’s first four runs with a three-run double and a homer.

Gallen (9-12) gave up one run and four hits in six innings, his second straight quality start since staying put at the July 31 trade deadline. He had six strikeouts and three walks.

Colorado third baseman Kyle Karros drove in Colorado’s run with an RBI single with one out in the second inning, his first major league plate appearance.

Karros was promoted from Triple-A Albuquerque before the game and played in front of his father Eric, a 14-year major league veteran.

Alexander, who had two hits and was hit by a pitch, has started all seven games at third base since Eugenio Suarez was traded to Seattle at the deadline.

Carroll has three homers and seven RBIs in his last six games after a stretch of 16 games without a homer.

Ketel Marte singled, walked twice and scored twice for the Diamondbacks, who had lost eight of 11.

Warming Bernabel doubled and scored for the Rockies, who have lost five in a row and seven of nine.

Colorado left-hander Austin Gomber (0-6) gave up six runs and five hits in six innings, with three strikeouts and three walks. He has not won since Sept. 5, 2024, a span of 40 starts.

Marte and Geraldo Perdomo walked and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. singled to load the bases in the first before Alexander lined a double into the left field corner to make it 3-0.

Alexander hit his second homer of the season in the fourth for a 4-1 lead and Carroll made it 6-1 in the fifth with his 24th.
