The extension calls for Leach to receive $4 million per year throughout the contract, with a one-time retention bonus of $750,000 following next season.
“Mike Leach has established, and continued, a culture of success at Washington State, both academically and athletically, that few have matched,” said WSU Director of Athletics Pat Chun. “He has returned WSU to national prominence, is one of the top football coaches in the nation, and we are fortunate to have him leading our program.”
The Cougars will be making their fifth consecutive bowl game appearance this year, the longest streak in program history. During his first eight seasons in Pullman, Leach has compiled 55 victories, third-most in program history.
Meanwhile, he has maintained his reputation as one of the most outspoken coaches in college football – including his propensity to criticize the performance of his own players.
“We are excited about going to our fifth-straight bowl game and look forward to another exciting season in 2020. Go Cougs!” said Leach.
