Team Spirit completed a round-robin sweep of Group A when they defeated BetBoom Team 2-0 on Thursday at FISSURE Universe: Episode 6.
Team Spirit are locked into the upper-bracket final, where they’ll face Team Liquid, the champions of Group B. Liquid’s 2-0 victory over Team Tidebound on Thursday clinched their spot atop Group B.
The $250,000 Dota 2 tournament begins with a round-robin group stage that concludes Friday, featuring two groups of five teams playing best-of-two matches. The top team from each group advances to the upper-bracket final. The second- and third-place teams from each group move on to the playoffs’ lower bracket while the remaining teams are eliminated.
The playoffs are Saturday and Sunday with a double-elimination bracket. All of these matches are best-of-three except for the grand final, which is best-of-five.
On Thursday, Team Spirit defeated BetBoom in 53 minutes and 42 minutes on green. Illya “Yatoro” Mulyarchuk of Ukraine led Spirit’s attack with an average kills-deaths-assists ratio of 14.5-2.5-11.0.
Meanwhile, Team Falcons clinched second in Group A when they beat Gaimin Gladiators 2-0, featuring a 39-minute win on green followed by a lightning-fast 13-minute win on red. In the latter round, GG only landed one kill, while Falcons’ Oliver “skiter” Lepko of Slovakia posted an 8-0-4 K-D-A.
GG were the only team to play twice Thursday, and they ended on a better note with a 2-0 sweep of AVULUS (33 minutes on red, 32 minutes on green).
In Group B, Liquid topped Tidebound in 44 minutes on green and 38 minutes on red. Michael “Micke” Vu of Sweden averaged a 12.0-2.5-9.0 K-D-A to propel Liquid.
The fight for second and third in Group B will be closely contested by PARIVISION, Aurora Gaming and Tidebound. PARIVISION defeated Virtus.pro 2-0 (47 minutes on red, 34 minutes on green) Thursday, and Virtus.pro — with three losses in three matches — were eliminated from playoff contention.
