Will Smith hit a pinch-hit walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers avoided a three-game sweep at the hands of the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks with a 5-4 victory on Sunday.

Right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto matched a career high with 10 strikeouts and tied a season high with seven innings, while Freddie Freeman had an RBI double in the first inning and Andy Pages drove in two runs as the Dodgers went 4-2 on the just-completed homestand.

Yamamoto gave up one run on four hits without a walk as he helped the Dodgers avoid a series sweep for his second consecutive start.

Smith’s pinch-hit home run to lead off the ninth came against Diamondbacks right-hander John Curtiss (2-1).

With the Dodgers four outs away from the victory, Arizona tied the game 4-4 in the eighth on a three-run home run from Corbin Carroll. Against Los Angeles left-hander Tanner Scott, Geraldo Perdomo and Ketel Marte singled with two outs before Carroll lifted the game-tying home run to left-center field, his 29th.

Adrian Del Castillo drove in a run for the Diamondbacks and had two hits, while right-hander Brandon Pfaadt gave up four runs on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings. Pfaadt gave up more runs in the first inning (two) than the Dodgers had scored over the first two games of the series (one).

The Dodgers delivered early as Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts opened the bottom of the first inning with singles. Freeman’s double was the 544th of his career, tying him with Derek Jeter for 34th on the all-time list.

Pages added an RBI ground out in the opening inning for a 2-0 lead.

Castillo had an RBI single in the fourth inning for Arizona, before Los Angeles answered in the bottom of the inning for a 3-1 advantage with an RBI single from Miguel Rojas. Pages added an RBI single in the fifth inning for a 4-1 lead.

Dodgers right-hander Blake Treinen (1-2) followed Scott with a perfect ninth inning to earn the win.
