Luis Torrens hit a three-run homer, Pete Alonso had a pair of solo shots and the visiting New York Mets romped past the Detroit Tigers 12-5 on Tuesday night.

Jeff McNeil had three hits and drove in three runs for New York while Juan Soto supplied two hits, including a homer, and drove in two runs. Brandon Nimmo and Brett Baty each added three hits.

Rookie Nolan McLean (4-0) collected his fourth win in as many starts for the Mets (75-64), who have taken the first two games of the three-game series. He gave up two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out seven in six innings.

Wenceel Perez collected three hits and two RBIs for the Tigers (80-60). Detroit’s Sawyer Gipson-Long (0-2), recalled from Triple-A Toledo for the start, allowed six runs and five hits in four innings. He walked two and fanned three.

The Mets took a quick lead on Alonso’s two-out homer in the first, a 435-foot blast.

Detroit jumped in front 2-1 in the bottom of the frame. Kerry Carpenter and Riley Greene drew two-out walks, and Spencer Torkelson and Perez followed with RBI singles.

The Mets grabbed a 6-2 lead in the fourth. Soto walked, stole second and moved to third on a Nimmo single. Mark Vientos walked to load the bases. McNeil knocked in a run with a single, and Cedric Mullins followed with a sacrifice fly.

Torrens then hit a fly ball down the right field line that banged off the pole for a three-run homer. It was his fifth long ball of the year.

Soto sparked a six-run, seventh-inning Mets outburst when he clobbered a Chris Paddack changeup over the right-center-field wall for his 37th homer. The next batter, Alonso, then hit his 33rd of the year, clearing the left-center-field wall.

A Nimmo single and a Vientos double put runners in scoring position for McNeil, who smacked a single to knock in two more runs. Baty drove in the fifth run of the inning with a single, and Francisco Lindor’s sacrifice fly made it 12-2.
