James Wood’s solo homer capped a three-run seventh inning and the Washington Nationals rallied for a 6-5 win against the visiting Chicago White Sox on Saturday.

With Washington trailing 4-2 in the seventh, Nasim Nunez singled against Steven Wilson and Jacob Young followed with a homer to left. Brandon Eisert (3-8) came on to face Wood, who hit his 31st homer to left-center on an 0-1 pitch, giving Washington the 5-4 lead.

Wood’s third hit, an RBI single in the eighth, made it 6-4.

Julian Fernandez (1-0) pitched a scoreless inning for his first Major League win and Jose A. Ferrer worked the ninth for his 11th save, allowing a run before striking out Chase Meidroth with the tying run on third to end it.

Daylen Lile homered, singled and walked, and Josh Bell had two doubles and a walk for the Nationals.

Colson Montgomery and Brooks Baldwin each hit two-run home runs for the White Sox, who have lost six of seven. Montgomery finished a triple short of the cycle.

Kyle Teel singled off Nationals starter Jake Irvin leading off the fourth. Montgomery, whose two-run ninth-inning homer was the difference on Friday night, homered into the Nationals bullpen to make it 2-0. Miguel Vargas walked, and one out later, Baldwin hit a high fly ball to right that hit the foul pole for a two-run homer to make it 4-0.

In the bottom half, Baldwin could not hold on to Bell’s fly ball on the left-field warning track and Bell ended up with a double. Lile connected with an 0-1 fastball for a line-drive two-run homer to right center to pull the Nationals within 4-2.

Montgomery led off the sixth with a double, but Irvin struck out Vargas, Edgar Quero and Baldwin.

Irvin went six innings, allowing four runs on six hits. He struck out six and walked one.

After opener Tyler Gilbert pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings, Sean Burke worked 4 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on three hits. He struck out a career-high 10 batters and walked one.
