Minnesota senior forward Mallory Heyer announced that she is entering the transfer portal and will not play for the Golden Gophers this season.

The 6-foot-1 Heyer is a Chaska, Minn., native who started 102 consecutive games over the past three seasons. She averaged 8.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per game while shooting 42.8% from the floor last season. Heyer led the team with 290 total rebounds while helping Minnesota win the WBIT postseason tournament.

The announcement came less than two weeks before the Gophers are scheduled to open their season against North Dakota on Nov. 4. Heyer is scheduled to graduate from Minnesota in December, with a goal of enrolling in a graduate program and practicing with a team by January.

“Thank you Minnesota for the past 3 years,” she wrote on X on Wednesday night. “I am forever grateful for the opportunity to represent my home state and wear Minnesota across my chest. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. For personal reasons, I will be closing this chapter of my career at Minnesota and entering the transfer portal to find a new home as a graduate transfer. God’s plan!”

Heyer originally chose Minnesota over Iowa State, Utah, Iowa and Wisconsin as a four-star recruit and three-time All-State selection. She leaves the program having scored 965 career points while grabbing 813 rebounds.
