Rory McIlroy is the new world No. 1-ranked golfer, ending the 38-week run of Brooks Koepka.
This is the eighth time the Northern Irishman has held the top spot, but the first week since Sept. 19, 2015.
Both McIlroy and Koepka, who fell to No. 2, are scheduled to take part in The Genesis Invitational beginning Thursday at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. They lead a field that includes nine of the top 10 players. Only No. 7 Webb Simpson won’t play.
Koepka, 29, had held the No. 1 ranking since last May, when he won the 2019 PGA Championship at Bethpage Black in New York.
