New England Patriots starting running back Rhamondre Stevenson will miss his third straight game after being ruled out with a toe injury for Thursday night’s home game against the New York Jets.
Stevenson’s absence in last Sunday’s 28-23 road win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers helped pave the way for rookie TreVeyon Henderson to rush for a season-best 147 yards and touchdown runs of 55 and 69 yards.
Stevenson has rushed for 279 yards and three touchdowns in eight games. Henderson has a sore knee but wasn’t given an injury designation.
The Patriots also ruled out receiver Kayshon Boutte (hamstring) for the second straight week. Boutte has a team-best five touchdowns receptions.
Others ruled out by New England were tight end Austin Hooper (concussion) and linebacker Christian Elliss (hip). Running back Terrell Jennings (knee) and defensive lineman Joshua Farmer (ankle) are questionable.
As expected, the Jets ruled out star receiver Garrett Wilson (knee), who reportedly will miss multiple weeks. Wilson has 36 catches for 395 yards and four touchdowns.
New York also ruled out cornerback Azareye’h Thomas (concussion) and listed five players as questionable: defensive linemen Harrison Phillips (foot) and Braiden McGregor (shoulder), edge rusher Will McDonald IV (quadriceps), offensive lineman Xavier Newman (ankle) and running back Khalil Herbert (groin).
