Mattias Samuelsson scored 1:05 into overtime off a Tage Thompson feed as the visiting Buffalo Sabres stormed back from a three-goal deficit to down the Detroit Red Wings 5-4 on Saturday night.

Thompson and Josh Doan had a goal and an assist apiece as the Sabres snapped a five-game losing streak and captured their first road win in eight outings. Alex Tuch and Ryan McLeod also scored, while Colten Ellis made 24 saves.

Alex DeBrincat had two goals for the Red Wings. Dylan Larkin and Patrick Kane also scored for Detroit, while Lucas Raymond had three assists. John Gibson stopped 22 shots.

The first period ended in a 1-all tie.

Kane scored his first goal since Oct. 15, tapping in a pass from Ben Chiarot with 9:37 left in the period. Just 29 seconds later, Tuch knotted the score. Gibson made a save against Thompson, who hit the post earlier in the contest, but the goaltender couldn’t hold onto the puck. Defenseman Moritz Seider tried to clear it from the crease but instead Tuch backhanded it past Gibson.

The Red Wings took advantage of a Sabres turnover in their own zone to take a 2-1 lead at 3:52 of the second period. Raymond passed the puck to DeBrincat, who maneuvered around Ellis and scored in front.

Larkin made it 3-1 during a 4-on-4 situation two minutes later. He converted a pass from Raymond and lifted the puck into the upper left-hand corner of the net. Seider also picked up an assist.

DeBrincat increased Detroit’s lead to 4-1 midway through the period on a power play. His shot from the left circle bounced off of defenseman Samuelsson’s stick and into the net.

Doan deflected in a Rasmus Dahlin shot late in the period to cut the Wings’ advantage to two goals.

Thompson pulled Buffalo within a goal at 4:25 of the period. He skated out of his own zone and headed to the net, where he sliced around Gibson for his team-high eighth goal this season.

McLeod evened the score at 4 midway through the period on a short-handed breakaway.
