Falcons end Tundra’s perfect start at BLAST Slam V

Team Falcons handed Tundra Esports their first loss in the BLAST Slam V group stage, leaving the teams tied for first at the end of play on Thursday.

While Tundra Esports won two of their three matches on the day, Team Falcons swept their pair as both sides ended up with 6-1 records.

Team Yandex prevailed in both of their matches to grab third place at 5-2.

The $1 million Dota 2 event is starting with 12 teams competing in a round-robin of single-map matches. The top two teams in the group-stage standings move straight into the playoff semifinals, while the next six teams head to a play-in event. Teams that come in ninth through 12th will compete in a last-chance playoff on Sunday.

One team will advance out of the last-chance playoff into the play-in event, also on Sunday. Four head-to-head, best-of-three play-in matches will be held, with the four winners earning playoff quarterfinal berths and the other teams eliminated.

The single-elimination playoffs are scheduled for Dec. 5-7 in Chengdu, China. The quarterfinals and semifinals will feature best-of-three matches, and the grand final will be best-of-five.

On Thursday, Team Falcons downed Tundra Esports in 39 minutes on green. Slovakia’s Oliver “skiter” Lepko paced Team Falcons with a 10-3-9 kill-death-assist ratio. Israel’s Neta “33” Shapira wound up at 8-7-3 for Tundra Esports.

Team Falcons’ other Thursday match was a 26-minute triumph on red vs. Natus Vincere. Russia’s Stanislav “Malr1ne” Potorak logged a 12-0-7 K-D-A ratio for Team Falcons, while no Natus Vincere player had more than one kill.

Tundra Esports handled HEROIC in 26 minutes on green thanks to a 9-1-11 K-D-A ratio from Great Britain’s Matthew “Ari” Walker. Nicaragua’s Yuma “Yuma” Langlet ended up at 6-2-0 for HEROIC.

Tundra Esports took down MOUZ in 34 minutes on red. Bulgaria’s Bozhidar “bzm” Bogdanov amassed an 18-1-14 K-D-A ratio for Tundra Esports. The Czech Republic’s Miroslav “BOOM” Bican posted a 4-5-7 K-D-A ratio for MOUZ.
