Patrick Kane scored the tiebreaking goal at 17:31 of the third period as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the host Seattle Kraken 4-3 on Saturday night.
Emmett Finnie, Andrew Copp and James van Riemsdyk also scored and Simon Edvinsson had two assists for the Red Wings, who won for the second time in their past seven games (2-3-2). Goaltender John Gibson made 24 saves.
Adam Larsson had a goal and an assist for the Kraken, who lost their fifth in a row (0-4-1). Brandon Montour and Chandler Stephenson also tallied, and Joey Daccord stopped 21 of 25 shots.
Kane’s winner came on a wrist shot from between the top faceoff circles that beat Daccord high to the glove side after Kane took a pass from Alex DeBrincat. It was Kane’s 497th career NHL goal.
The Red Wings opened the scoring against Seattle’s league-worst penalty kill at 7:06 of the first period, as Nate Danielson sent a cross-slot pass to Finnie for a one-timer from the right faceoff dot.
The Kraken tied it at 16:16 of the period as Matty Beniers twice spun to get away from defenders in his own zone and fed Jordan Eberle to start an odd-man rush. Eberle left a drop pass for Montour, whose wrist shot from the top of the right faceoff made it through a screen and went in off the far post.
Detroit regained the lead at 5:10 of the second as Copp jammed the puck into the net from next to the left post, snapping a 26-game goal-less drought.
Larsson tied it on a wrist shot through a screen from just outside the top of the right faceoff circle at 6:44 of the second period.
Seattle took the lead at 12:44 as Stephenson tipped Larsson’s slap shot from the right point over Gibson’s left shoulder.
The Red Wings tied the score at 3-3 at 19:32 of the second. Seattle defenseman Ryker Evans pinched to try to keep the puck in the offensive zone, but it bounced past him, creating a 2-on-1 Detroit rush. Van Riemsdyk kept the puck and beat Daccord with a wrist shot from just inside the right faceoff dot.
Seattle defenseman Jamie Oleksiak was a healthy scratch for the first time since being selected in the 2021 expansion draft. Oleksiak, who was a team-worst minus-3 in Thursday’s 9-4 loss at Edmonton, was replaced in the lineup by Josh Mahura.
