Orlando Magic star forward Franz Wagner was diagnosed with a left high ankle sprain on Monday, one day after taking a spill early in a game against the New York Knicks.
The Magic said Wagner had an MRI Monday that revealed the sprain. ESPN reported that he had no structural damage in his leg and could face a timeline to return of two to four weeks.
Wagner landed awkwardly after attempting to slam an alley-oop pass from teammate Anthony Black in the first quarter of Orlando’s 106-100 loss to New York.
The 24-year-old averages 22.7 points and a career-high 6.1 rebounds while shooting 36% from 3-point range through 24 games.
Wagner, the Magic’s eighth overall draft pick in 2021, will miss Orlando’s run in the NBA Cup knockout round. The Magic host the rival Heat in a quarterfinal game on Tuesday, and with a win they’ll move on to the semifinals hosted in Las Vegas.
