Nico Hischier scored twice, the latter at 3:42 of overtime, as the New Jersey Devils defeated the Seattle Kraken 3-2 Wednesday night in Newark, N.J.

Cody Glass also scored and Jack Hughes and Luke Hughes each had two assists for the Devils, who won their second straight following a four-game skid. Goaltender Jacob Markstrom made 15 saves.

Jared McCann had a goal and an assist, Adam Larsson scored and Vince Dunn had two helpers for the Kraken, who are 1-1-1 on their five-game trip that continues Thursday in Boston. Goalie Philipp Grubauer stopped 23 of 26 shots.

Hischier skated down the right wing in overtime, faked going across the top of the crease and stuffed a backhander past Grubauer and inside the near post for the winner.

The score was tied at 1-1 after the first period and 2-2 after two.

Glass gave the Devils a 1-0 lead just 54 seconds in. Dougie Hamilton’s shot from the blue line deflected off Seattle forward Eeli Tolvanen on its way to the net, handcuffing Grubauer. The goalie made the initial save but left a juicy rebound that Glass put into the net.

The Kraken tied it at 8:55 as McCann carried the puck over the blue line and left a drop pass for Larsson. The defenseman’s wrist shot from the top of the right faceoff circle beat Markstrom.

The Devils went back up on the power play at 3:33 of the second. Jack Hughes sent a cross-ice pass to Hischier and his slap shot from the top of the right faceoff circle snuck just inside the far post.

The Kraken equaled the score with the man advantage at 5:06. Dunn broke his stick on a slap shot from the blue line, sending the puck knuckling toward the net. Markstrom made a sprawling kick save but McCann lifted the rebound over the goalie.

Kraken forward Chandler Stephenson returned after missing the previous two games due to the birth of a child.

Devils defenseman Simon Nemec was back in after being scratched from Monday’s 5-2 victory at Minnesota.
