Dylan Larkin scored at 3:08 of overtime Wednesday night and the visiting Detroit Red Wings defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1.

Moritz Seider set up the game-winner after making a takeaway in the neutral zone and passing to Larkin, who was breaking toward the net.

Simon Edvinsson also scored for the Red Wings, who completed a sweep of the four-game season series with the Maple Leafs.

John Gibson had a strong game and stopped 30 shots. The Red Wings have won three straight.

Scott Laughton scored for the Maple Leafs, who have lost the first two of five in a row at home. Joseph Woll also played a solid game and made 39 saves.

Laughton snapped home a 12-footer at 4:46 of the first period to give Toronto a 1-0 lead after Calle Jarnkrok fanned on a shot from the right circle that skittered to the front of the net.

Toronto’s Nicolas Roy pinged a wrist shot off the right post at 14:31 of the first.

Detroit tied the game at 19:42 of the first after a Toronto defensive breakdown when Edvinsson knocked in Lucas Raymond’s pass to the front of the net.

Toronto defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson suffered a lower-body injury early in the first period and did not return.

Gibson made some big saves when Toronto had two power plays in the first half of the second period.

Gibson stopped Laughton on a penalty shot at 16:41 of the second. He was hooked when he broke in on goal while Toronto was killing a penalty.

Toronto defenseman Simon Benoit flattened Raymond with a crushing body check at the conclusion of the second period. That caused a brief skirmish before the teams left the ice.

Gibson again rose to the occasion when Auston Matthews drove to the goal at 9:57 of the third period of a game that had a playoff feel.

Gibson stopped John Tavares from close range at 14:08.

Woll maintained his poise when Detroit kept Toronto bottled up late in the third period.

Detroit’s Alex DeBrincat had two good chances early in the overtime.
