The road to the semifinals was a rather easy one for a pair of teams Friday at the Intel Extreme Masters Krakow tournament in Poland.
Next up, the Friday winners will oppose the two best teams in the tournament thus far.
After FURIA swept Aurora Gaming 2-0, MOUZ did the same to G2 Esports as the pair advanced to Saturday’s semifinals, where Team Spirit await FURIA and Team Vitality will take on MOUZ.
The $1 million Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament started with 24 teams, with 16 teams advancing to a double-elimination group stage involving best-of-three matches. The group winners earned spots in the playoff semifinals and the group runners-up and third-place teams advanced to the quarterfinals.
The playoffs consist of a single-elimination bracket of best-of-three matches until the grand final on Sunday, which will be best-of-five. The championship team will receive $400,000, and the runner-up will get $180,000.
On Friday, FURIA had little trouble with Aurora, winning 13-7 on Dust II and 13-4 on Mirage. Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato of Brazil led FURIA with a 46-18 kill-death ratio while four teammates all posted kill totals in the 20s.
The second match was more competitive, with MOUZ winning the first map in overtime, 16-13 on Overpass. The second map, Dust II, was much smoother as MOUZ won 13-7. Lotan “Spinx” Giladi and Hungary’s Adam “torzsi” Torzsas each posted 40 kills to lead MOUZ.
FURIA will play Team Spirt in Saturday’s first semifinal, with MOUZ’s match against Team Vitality following.
