Nigel James Jr. scored 20 points as Marquette snapped a three-game losing streak by defeating Georgetown 76-60 on Tuesday night in Washington, D.C.

Adrien Stevens added 16 points while Chase Ross had 14 as Marquette (10-18, 5-12 Big East) won its ninth straight game at Georgetown, a streak that started Feb. 26, 2018.

Damarius Owens scored 11 while Ben Gold had 10 points and 12 rebounds for Marquette, which split the season series with the Hoyas.

Vince Iwuchukwu matched his career high with 19 points to lead Georgetown (13-15, 5-12), which has now lost five straight. Isaiah Abraham scored 13 points as the Hoyas are now tied with Marquette at the bottom of the conference standings.

Georgetown closed the gap to 64-57 on a Caleb Williams 3-pointer with 6:10 remaining, but it was all Marquette after that. The Golden Eagles finished the game on a 12-3 run while Georgetown missed its final 10 shots from the field and finished shooting 37.7% from the field. Marquette shot 50.8%.

Marquette’s third-leading scorer, Royce Parham (12.4 ppg), was a late scratch due to back spasms and was replaced by Owens in the starting lineup.

Parham had been averaging 17.9 ppg over the last eight games on 63.9% shooting from the field.

Marquette used a 15-1 run over a four-minute span to take a 33-25 lead with 4:36 left in the half on a deep three by James. James scored 10 during the Golden Eagles’ burst, including two 3-pointers.

Hoyas leading scorer KJ Lewis (15.3 ppg) was held to four points on 2-of-4 shooting in 14 minutes before exiting with a left leg injury. Lewis returned to the Georgetown bench on crutches in the second half.

Marquette took a 40-35 lead into the halftime break after making 6 of 14 3-pointers while the Hoyas went 1 of 10 from deep. Georgetown hung around thanks to Iwuchukwu’s 15 first-half points that included three uncontested dunks.

Georgetown outscored Marquette 37-5 in bench pointa. Marquette forced 15 Georgetown turnovers and had 11 steals, with James and Stevens each recording three.
