Colson Montgomery hit a three-run home run to lift the Chicago White Sox to a 5-3 victory over the visiting Cleveland Guardians on Sunday.

Brenton Doyle was 2-for-5 with a double, and Munetaka Murakami and Randal Grichuk added an RBI double apiece in the rubber match for Chicago.

Jose Ramirez collected two hits and drove in a run to lead Cleveland.

Chicago came alive after a 2-hour, 23-minute rain delay that followed the first inning.

The White Sox took a 5-2 lead in the third behind three hits and four walks. Tim Herrin recorded the first two outs but was relieved by Craig Yoho (2-1), who walked Miguel Vargas. Then Vargas moved to second on a wild pitch and scored to tie the game at 2-all when Grichuk lined a double to left.

After Braden Montgomery walked, Colson Montgomery launched his 26th homer of the season to right field for a 5-2 advantage.

Earlier, Cleveland jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Steven Kwan opened the game with a single and Chase DeLauter walked.

Ramirez followed with a line-drive single to right that Braden Montgomery misplayed, allowing Kwan to score on the error. Nathaniel Lowe then plated DeLauter with a sacrifice fly to center.

Chicago cut its deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the frame. Doyle got things started with a single to center and stole second before Murakami drove him in with an RBI double. Vargas then doubled to put runners at second and third, but Cleveland starter Joey Cantillo struck out three in a row to escape the jam.

Ramirez’s sacrifice fly in the ninth scored Angel Genao for the final margin.

Hagen Smith (1-0) earned the win in his major league debut with two hitless innings during which he walked four and fanned three. Trevor Richards notched his first save, allowing one run on no hits with two walks in the ninth.

Neither starter returned following the rain delay. Davis Martin allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits, with one walk and one strikeout, and Cantillo yielded one run on three hits, with no walks and three strikeouts.
