Pete Alonso hit a pair of two-run homers among his three hits as the Baltimore Orioles beat the Texas Rangers 10-5 to avoid a series sweep on Sunday in Arlington, Texas.
Tyler O’Neill slugged a two-run homer and Colton Cowser added a solo blast for Baltimore, which led 7-3 after four innings. Coby Mayo had three hits and Jackson Holliday, Leody Taveras and Cowser each contributed two hits.
After scoring one run in each of their last three games (all losses), the Orioles erupted for 15 hits to win the finale of the three-game set.
Texas was 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and had its four-game winning streak snapped. Brandon Nimmo hit a three-run homer and Cam Cauley had two hits.
The Orioles set the tone with two runs in the first against Kumar Rocker (4-9). With two on and two outs, Dylan Beavers singled in a run and Taveras followed with a run-scoring double.
Cowser hit his ninth homer of the season to begin the second and Gunnar Henderson drew a one-out walk in front of Alonso, who deposited an 0-1 slider from Rocker over the left field wall.
Nimmo put the Rangers on the board with two outs in the third when he turned on the first pitch from starter Cade Povich for a three-run homer. The 434-foot shot was Nimmo’s 13th this season.
Povich was replaced by Yaramil Hiraldo (1-0) after allowing three runs on four hits with two walks and one strikeout over three innings. Hiraldo struck out three over two scoreless innings.
Rocker was lifted after giving up six runs on seven hits over three innings. He walked two and struck out five.
The Orioles extended their lead in the fourth against Jordan Montgomery, who made his first major league appearance since Sept. 22, 2024.
With a runner at second and one out in the fourth, Alonso turned on a 3-2 changeup for his 25th homer of the season.
O’Neill added a two-run homer, a 425-foot shot, with one out in the sixth against Montgomery.
Baltimore added a run in the ninth when Cowser drew a bases-loaded walk from Cole Winn before Texas scored twice in the bottom half of the inning.
