Cal Quantrill pitched seven strong innings, Justin Foscue homered and the Texas Rangers opened a six-game homestand with a 5-0 win over the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night in Arlington.

Corey Seager had a double and a single, and Wyatt Langford had two hits, a walk and two runs scored for Texas, which was coming off a disappointing 2-5 road trip.

Quantrill (5-4) gave up four hits and struck out five without a walk.

CJ Abrams, hitless during a weekend series at the New York Mets, had a double and a single for the Nationals, who were shut out for just the fourth time this season.

Jackson Kent (0-1) made his second major league start for Washington and gave up five runs on eight hits over 3 2/3 innings. The 23-year-old left-hander struck out three and walked three.

Washington has lost four straight and six of seven.

Texas got to Kent in each of the first three innings.

Langford and Seager led off the first with singles, putting runners on first and third. Jake Burger grounded into a double play as Langford scored to make it 1-0.

In the second, Foscue hit his first homer since July 9, a solo shot with one out.

Langford singled leading off the third and Seager doubled. With the infield in, Brandon Nimmo hit a ground to second baseman Jorbit Vivas and Langford beat the throw home to make it 3-0. Ezequiel Duran walked to load the bases and Foscue walked to force in a run. With two outs, Cody Freeman singled off the glove of third baseman Brady House and the lead was 5-0.

Nasim Nunez singled against Robby Ahlstrom leading off the Washington eighth. With two outs Andres Chaparro hit a shot to left which would have scored Nunez but the ball bounced over the wall for a ground-rule double and Nunez had to go back to third. Jakob Junis struck out pinch hitter Jose Tena to end the threat.
