Marco Reus scored the tiebreaking goal in the 80th minute, four minutes after setting up the tying goal by Joao Klauss, as the Los Angeles Galaxy stopped their five-game road winless streak by rallying for a 3-2 victory Saturday night over Minnesota United.
Los Angeles (8-10-9, 33 points) won for the third time in its past 12 matches and scored more than two goals for the first time since its 3-0 win over Charlotte on Feb. 28.
Reus entered the contest as a substitute in the 59th minute and made an impact after Los Angeles lost an early lead.
From the left sideline, Reus sent a long pass through several defenders to Klauss. With his back to the net, Klauss deflected the ball with a header while being surrounded by multiple defenders and scored for the first time since March 22 while playing his second game following foot surgery.
Reus snapped the tie by getting to the center of the box and sticking his left foot out for the re-direction of a long pass by Lucas Calegari. It was his seventh goal and third in the past four games.
Pablo Ruiz scored on a penalty kick in the 12th minute as Los Angeles moved into eighth in the Western Conference and one point ahead of Portland.
Marcus Caldeira scored in the 23rd and Kelvin Yeboah scored on a penalty kick seven minutes later as Minnesota (7-11-8, 29 points) fell to 0-4-1 in its past five games.
Los Angeles goalie JT Marcinkowski made three saves while Minnesota goalie Drake Callender stopped two shots.
Following a foul by Anthony Markanich on Kyogo Furuhashi in the 10th, Ruiz opened the scoring by burying a left-footed shot over Minnesota’s wall and under the crossbar before Callender could react.
Minnesota evened things when Caldeira got by Furuhashi in the middle of the box and sent a header from the center of the box into the upper part of the net after getting a perfectly executed pass from Wil Trapp.
Following a foul by Jakob Glesnes in the 27th on Markanich, Yeboah scored for the third straight game by faking out Marcinkowski and sending a right-footed shot into the vacated left corner.
