Alabama Crimson Tide freshman running back Trey Sanders suffered a significant foot injury in Thursday’s practice and is expected to miss the entire season, according to AL.com.
Ranked No. 1 at his position and No. 5 overall by 247Sports, the standout from Florida’s IMG Academy was expected to be a big part of the Crimson Tide offense this season.
He was hurt on the final play Thursday and was absent for Friday’s practice.
Junior Najee Harris is expected to carry the bulk of the load for Alabama this season, though the 6-foot, 214-pound Sanders was expected to push him for carries.
Fellow junior Brian Robinson figures to shoulder most of the backup carries with Sanders sidelined.
The Crimson Tide open the season against the Duke Blue Devils on Aug. 31 in Atlanta.
