Safety, Auburn Tigers 5-11, 189 40 time: 4.55e
Dinson hits the NFL with loads of experience against pro-ready competition, seeing action in 48 games at Auburn and collecting 214 tackles (11 for loss), four interceptions and four forced fumbles. He played free safety with the Tigers but likely will be a combo safety or strong safety at the next level.
A heat-seeking missile who craves contact, Dinson is one of the hardest-hitting and most reliable open-field tacklers in the country. The compactly built DB uncoils on opponents using proper hitting technique. He keeps his eyes up and delivers forceful blows with his shoulders square, driving through his legs and wrapping his arms securely for the immediate takedown. He aggressively rips at the ball. Highly effective near the line of scrimmage in the run game or blitzing, shedding blocks from tight ends, backs and even offensive linemen quickly with powerful, active hands and lower-body coordination. In coverage, awareness is Dinson’s best attribute. He shows impressive route anticipation, accelerating to cut off throwing angles just as receivers make their cuts.
Dinson is slightly undersized and comes with significant medical red flags that will require a thorough investigation by NFL doctors. Suffered brutal dislocations of his left shoulder and right knee against Texas A&M in 2015, with three torn knee ligaments. Suffered an injury to his right shoulder during Auburn’s 2018 spring game that also resulted in surgery. On-field aggression can get the best of him. Eager to get involved and can get sucked up in play-action. He is at his best with the ball in front of him reading the quarterback’s eyes. Dinson has good but not elite change-of-direction agility and acceleration for deep coverage duties.
Quandre Diggs, Seattle Seahawks — Despite lacking ideal size for the position, both Diggs and Dinson have played big and delivered jarring hits. Both are also reliable open-field tacklers with enough lateral flexibility to cover the slot.
