In Chicago, competition is coming for Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.

According to multiple reports, the Bears are kicking the tires on several veterans including acquiring about potential trades for Nick Foles and Andy Dalton, ESPN’s Ed Werder first reported. Saints free agent quarterback Teddy Bridgewater also visited with the Bears on Monday, but is not expected to sign with the team.

Dalton is available via trade with the Cincinnati Bengals primed to select No. 1 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft on April 23. Second-year coach Zac Taylor benched Dalton last season, but personnel director Duke Tobin said the Bengals will work with Dalton on finding him a new home.

The Jaguars are moving on from Foles one year into a four-year, $88 million deal signed in March 2019.

Foles cracked his collarbone in the regular-season opener in September 2019 against the Kansas City Chiefs, opening the door for unheralded rookie Gardner Minshew to take hold of the position.

Foles, 31, was the subject of the highest praise from Nagy. Foles played for Nagy in Philadelphia and Kansas City. When Foles got to Kansas City and didn’t have a car, he used Nagy’s ride. They met when Foles was a rookie and Nagy was with the Eagles as a coaching intern.

“Nick is as good of a human being as you will find. You want to talk about people who do things the right way,” Nagy said of Foles in January 2019. “He’s somebody who cares about others, somebody who just wants to play for the love of the game. And he was at a low point then. Coach Reid has a history of bringing in people who are maybe at a low point and saving and resurrecting their careers. And I love that. I absolutely love that about him. I have learned that. I appreciate it.

Foles is a former Super Bowl MVP who also guided the Eagles to a win over Nagy and the Bears in the playoffs — the infamous double-doink game lost when Bears kicker Cody Parkey hit the upright and crossbar on a potential game-winning field goal.

Nagy said in February at the NFL Scouting Combine that Trubisky would face competition this year. He is coming off of labrum surgery, a shoulder injury he suffered Week 4 last season.

In 15 starts during his third NFL season in 2019, the 25-year-old Trubisky completed 63.2 percent of his passes for 3,138 yards, 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

The 2017 first-round pick (No. 2 overall) has a 23-18 career record as the Bears’ starter, completing 63.4 percent of his throws for 8,554 yards with 48 TDs and 29 picks. He made the Pro Bowl and led Chicago to the NFC North division title in 2018.
