This fall’s French Open could take place sans spectators.
French Tennis Federation president Bernard Giudicelli said the tournament, which is now scheduled for Sept. 20-Oct. 4, may proceed without fans in attendance at Roland Garros.
“Organizing it without fans would allow a part of the economy to keep turning, (like) television rights and partnerships,” he told the French newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche on Sunday. “We’re not ruling any option out.”
The clay-court Grand Slam event was originally scheduled for May 24-June 7 in Paris, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Giudicelli also acknowledged that the start date could be further postponed to Sept. 27.
