Japanese left-hander Yusei Kikuchi selected the Seattle Mariners in free agency and has until the end of the day Wednesday to agree to a contract with the team.
The 27-year-old was posted by the Seibu Lions and had his best season in 2017, when he tossed four shutouts and had a 1.97 ERA.
In eight seasons, Kikuchi had a 2.77 ERA with 903 strikeouts in 1,010 2/3 innings.
The Mariners could use Kikuchi to front a rotation that subtracted ace James Paxton via trade.
