Nasa Hataoka, Su Oh match 36-hole record in Thailand

Su Oh and Nasa Hataoka tied the 36-hole tournament record on Friday and maintained a share of the lead at the Honda LPGA Thailand.

Oh and Hataoka are bogey-free and 16-under par through two rounds on Siam Country Club Pattaya’s Old Course. They carded matching 65s on Friday after opening with rounds of 63.

Oh made an eagle on 18 only to see Hataoka birdie to keep a share of the lead. They equaled the scoring record of 128 held by Jessica Korda (2018) and Patty Tavatanakit (2021).

“My ball striking wasn’t like, the impact wasn’t very good today. I was just kind of scrambling really well out there,” said Oh, who won the Australian WPGA Championship in January. “I was like, come on, you want to hit some good shots before going into tomorrow. Such a long day, so I don’t think I would want to hit balls after.”

The co-leaders are paired again Friday in Thailand, where France’s Celine Boutier and Denmark’s Nanna Koerstz Madsen are tied for third (-15). China’s Xiyu Lin sits two back at -14. American Jennifer Kupcho and Canada’s Brooke Henderson are tied for sixth at -12.

Japan’s Hataoka has five career LPGA Tour victories, most recently at the 2021 Walmart NW Arkansas Championship. Her best finish at the LPGA Thailand was 31st in 2021.

Oh’s career-best 36-hole score was 132 and she’s never finished in the top 50 at the LPGA Thailand. This is the Australian’s fifth appearance in the event.
