Texas leading scorer Kerwin Roach II was cleared to return for the Big 12 tournament, a major boon for the Longhorns after going 1-4 without him. Texas (16-15) is considered on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament and likely needs a strong showing this week in Kansas City to secure a spot in the March Madness field. Roach was suspended for the Nov. 6 opener against Eastern Illinois for violating team rules the previous year. Roach also was suspended for violating team rules for the season opener in 2016-17, making the most recent ban his third suspension with the Longhorns. The Longhorns match up with No. 3 seed Kansas in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament Thursday. Roach was averaging 15 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 31.2 minutes before the suspension, which was announced by Texas as punishment for an unspecified violation of team rules. –Field Level Media
