Tiger Woods‘ status for The Masters in April is uncertain after announcing he underwent a fifth back surgery in December.
Woods announced Tuesday that he will miss the Farmers Insurance Open and the Genesis Invitational, two events he played last year before sitting out multiple events due to back stiffness. The coronavirus pandemic shut the sport down for three months, and Woods did not return until July.
Woods said he was feeling discomfort after playing in the PNC Championship with his son, Charlie, in December and underwent a microdiscectomy procedure to remove a pressurized disc fragment in his back.
Tiger Woods Expects Full Recovery
While he did not provide a timetable for his return, Woods did say that he expects to make a full recovery.
“I look forward to begin training and am focused on getting back out on Tour,” Woods said in a statement.

The five-time Masters champion has only 11 weeks before the 2021 event at Augusta National.
The Masters, where Woods has won five times including in 2019, starts in just 11 weeks.
However, he is coming off a 2020 in which he was rarely a factor in the few tournaments he did play, posting just one top 10. Woods missed the cut at the U.S. Open and was not a factor at the PGA Championship in August or The Masters in November.
