Defending champion Alex de Minaur of Australia needed just over two hours to win his first-round match at the Mubadala DC Open, getting past Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 on Wednesday.

de Minaur logged twice as many double faults as aces (8-4), but he got the lone service break of the third set to go up 3-1 and held on for the victory.

In second-round action, third-seeded Taylor Fritz overpowered Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak 6-3, 6-4. Fritz fired 14 aces, won 90% of his first-serve points (28 of 31) and never faced a break point.

Fritz’s quarterfinal opponent will be Alex Michelsen, who downed France’s Adrian Mannarino 6-4, 7-6 (3). Another quarterfinal will feature fourth-seeded Lorenzo Musetti of Italy, a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 winner over Australia’s Aleksandar Vukic, and Spain’s Rafael Jodar, who triumphed 6-3, 6-2 over Japan’s Kei Nishikori.

Hong Kong’s Coleman Wong recorded the top victory of his career, upsetting top-seeded Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the second round at Los Cabos, Mexico.

Wong, a 22-year-old who is ranked No. 108 in the world, never previously had defeated a player ranked as highly as Lehecka, who is No. 12. Wong registered 16 aces and equaled his best tour showing by advancing to the tournament’s quarterfinals.

Next up for Wong will be Jenson Brooksby, who eliminated Australian lucky loser Edward Winter 6-3, 6-4.

Third-seeded Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina advanced when U.S. qualifier Tristan Boyer retired in the second set. Boyer won the first set 7-6 (4) but trailed 4-3 in the second when he halted the match.

Five more second-round matches were slated for Wednesday night.
