The Australian Open has increased the prize money for this year’s first Grand Slam tournament by 16% to $74.9 million USD.

That surpasses Wimbledon ($72.7 million in 2025) and trails last year’s U.S. Open, which set a Grand Slam record at $85.0 million. The purse for the 2025 French Open was $65.4 million.

Action in the Australian Open main draw begins in Melbourne on Jan. 18 and runs through Feb. 1. The defending champions are Italian Jannik Sinner and American Madison Keys.

The men’s and women’s singles champions will earn $2.8 million each, a 19% jump from last year. First-round losers will take home $100,761, an increase of 14% over last year.

The prize money represents about 16% of the $465.8 million in revenues reported by Tennis Australia for 2025. Top players on the ATP and WTA tours have argued that the number should be closer to 22%.
