Unseeded Marton Fucsovics of Hungary, the 94th-ranked player in the world, pulled off his third consecutive upset over a seeded opponent with a 7-5, 6-3 Winston-Salem (N.C.) Open quarterfinal victory over No. 12 Jaume Munar of Spain on Thursday.
The 33-year-old Fucsovics converted 6 of 9 break points and won 42 percent of his first-serve returns and 64 percent of his second-serve returns.
Fucsovics’ reward is a fourth straight match against a seeded foe. He’ll face No. 11 Sebastian Korda in Friday’s semifinals after Korda earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory over No. 13 Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia. Korda rifled off 14 aces versus just one double fault. He also registered 29 winners compared to Kecmanovic’s 13.
No. 9 seed Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard of France is the highest-seeded remaining player in the field after dispatching Serbia’s Hamad Medjedovic 7-6 (8), 6-2. Mpetshi Perricard’s serve topped out at 149 miles per hour while racking 15 aces with no double faults.
Mpetshi Perricard gets the winner of Thursday’s final quarterfinal between the Netherlands’ Botic Van De Zandschulp and China’s Yunchaokete Bu.
