World No. 1 Jannik Sinner will not play again in the 2026 season as he seeks to treatment for his ailing right knee, he announced Tuesday.
His final tournament of the year came in July, when he defeated Alexander Zverev in four sets to win his second consecutive men’s singles title at Wimbledon. On the season, he has a 44-3 record and six titles, including five consecutive Masters 1000 titles: the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, the Miami Open, the Monte Carlo Masters, the Madrid Open and the Italian Open.
Week by week since the Wimbledon victory, the 25-year-old Sinner has withdrawn from tournaments, including the U.S. Open and two Masters 1000 events, because of the injury. He will not defend his title in the season-ending ATP Tour Finals in Turin in his home country, Italy.
“The last couple of years, especially the ending in Turin, have given me so many beautiful feelings and emotions, which this year is going to be way different,” he said in a video posted to social media.
“At the moment, I also need to think about my long-term career,” Sinner added.
The Turin event begins Nov. 15.
