The Los Angeles Angels signed infielder Jonathan Villar to a contract and added him to active roster on Saturday.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed for Villar, who was released by the Cubs on Wednesday after Chicago designated him for assignment on June 24.
Also on Saturday, the Angels optioned catcher Matt Thaiss to Triple-A Salt Lake and transferred right-hander Archie Bradley to the 60-day injured list. Bradley sustained a broken bone in his right elbow while climbing over the dugout railing during the team’s melee with the Seattle Mariners on Sunday.
Villar, 31, batted .222 with two homers and 15 RBIs in 46 games with the Cubs this season.
He has a .256 career average in 10 seasons with seven teams. He has 100 homers, 340 RBIs and 238 stolen bases in 1,019 games.
Villar led the majors with 62 steals in 2016 for the Milwaukee Brewers. He has played shortstop (392 career starts), second base (335) and third base (144).
Thaiss, 27, went 0-for-2 with one strikeout in two games this season for Los Angeles.
Bradley, 29, is 0-1 with a 4.82 ERA in 21 relief appearances with the Angels this season.
