Warriors down Knicks, maintain home superiority

Stephen Curry scored 24 points, Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins went for 20 apiece and the Golden State Warriors continued their impressive play at home with a 111-101 victory over the New York Knicks on Friday in San Francisco.

Curry completed a double-double with a game-high 10 assists and Draymond Green contributed 10 points, nine rebounds and seven assists as the Warriors improved to 7-1 on their home floor. Golden State is 0-8 on the road.

Julius Randle put up 20 points and RJ Barrett added 18 for the Knicks, who had opened a five-game Western swing with wins over the Utah Jazz and the Denver Nuggets.

The Warriors used superior shooting — both in front of and behind the 3-point arc — to improve to 3-0 against Eastern Conference visitors this season. With Thompson hitting 8 of 16 and Wiggins 8 of 15, Golden State outshot the Knicks 45.1 percent to 34.5 percent overall and 36 percent to 26.5 percent on 3-pointers.

Curry did a majority of his scoring on 5-for-13 accuracy from beyond the arc. Thompson (four), Wiggins (three) and Jordan Poole (three) added 10 additional threes, helping Golden State outscore the visitors 54-27 from long distance.

Down double digits most of the way and upward of 20 at times, the Knicks were still alive at 98-90 after a Randle 3-pointer with 5:54 remaining.

However, Curry hit a basket and a free throw, and Thompson added a pair of hoops, including a 3-pointer, in an eight-point burst that doubled the margin to 16, allowing Golden State to coast home.

Poole finished with 13 points and JaMychal Green had 12 for Golden State, which won despite getting outscored 32-11 at the free-throw line.

Jalen Brunson (13 points), Cam Reddish (11) and Jericho Sims (10) also scored in double figures for the Knicks. Sims completed a double-double off the bench with a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Warriors led by as many as 22 points in a first half that saw Wiggins (three), Thompson (three) and Curry (two) combine for eight 3-pointers on 18 attempts. As a team, the Knicks went 6-for-18 from beyond the arc over those same 24 minutes, which ended with the visitors down 61-50.
