Forward Gavin Griffiths, the No. 33 overall recruit in the Class of 2023, committed Thursday to play his college basketball at Rutgers.
Multiple reports said the four-star Griffiths is the highest-rated recruit to sign with the Scarlet Knights during the tenure of coach Steve Pikiell.
A 6-foot-7 small forward out of Connecticut, Griffiths also had offers from Alabama, UConn, LSU, Maryland, Michigan, Syracuse and others.
“Right when I visited, I just knew it for sure,” Griffiths told 247Sports. “I had a great relationship with Coach Pikiell and a great relationship with the entire coaching staff. Basketball wise, they are a great up-and-coming program that has made the tournament the last couple of years in the Big Ten Conference. They have great facilities and a great place to play in the RAC.”
Rutgers is coming off consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances for the first time since 1975 and 1976. The Scarlet Knights made the Round of 32 in 2021, lost in the First Four last March and extended Pikiell through the 2029-30 season as a reward for the turnaround.
